What reverse osmosis does
Reverse osmosis (RO) pushes water through a very fine membrane that filters out contaminants down to a tiny size. Installed under your kitchen sink with its own dedicated faucet, an RO system delivers high-purity water for drinking, cooking, coffee and ice — cutting sediment, the chlorine taste and a large share of the dissolved solids, then remineralizing so it tastes clean rather than flat.
Here's the honest version: Tampa's tap water already meets every federal safety standard, so RO isn't about fixing unsafe water — it's about going a step beyond the legal minimum. It gives you water that tastes noticeably better than what comes out of the tap, with fewer dissolved solids — and it's remineralized, so it doesn't taste flat the way plain RO water can. What does a reverse osmosis system remove?
RO reduces sediment, the chlorine taste and odor, and much of the total dissolved solids in your water — then our remineralizer puts the good minerals back so it tastes clean rather than flat. Because the membrane filters to such a fine level, RO water is about the highest-purity drinking water you can get at home.
Does reverse osmosis waste a lot of water?
Older RO systems sent several gallons to drain for each gallon produced. Modern high-efficiency systems have improved that ratio significantly. For most households the amount is modest, and it's traded for genuinely high-purity drinking water. We'll spec an efficient system.
Does RO remove healthy minerals, and can you add them back?
RO does reduce dissolved minerals along with contaminants. Many people don't notice or mind, since minerals in drinking water are a small part of dietary intake. If you prefer, we can include a remineralization stage that adds a small amount of minerals back for taste.
Where is the RO system installed?
Under the kitchen sink, with a small dedicated faucet mounted at the sink for drinking and cooking water. It connects to your existing cold-water supply and drain. A licensed plumber handles the installation.
